My Story
I’m Dr. Dennis. I received my BS in Psychobiology from the State University of New York in Binghamton in 1998. I was involved in research on neuroplasticity in rats, and considered being a research scientist, but ultimately, I realized I wanted to directly help people in a clinical setting.
But I did not like how our culture believed that medication or surgery was the answer for everything. I thought back to when I was 16 years old and herniated a disc in my lower back. It was debilitating, and terrifying. I couldn’t even stand up straight or walk. Medicine didn’t help. I thought I would be stuck like that forever. My mother took me to a Chiropractor, and that changed my life. I decided to become a Chiropractor. This was a profession where I could treat people naturally and focus on wellness instead of sickness.
I attended Life University, College of Chiropractic in Marietta, GA from 1998-2002. While still a student, I was involved in a volunteer trip to India, where we treated thousands of impoverished individuals, in a rural area, which had little access to healthcare. It was probably the most fulfilling experience of my life, and it really solidified the fact that I chose the right profession. I felt like I was born to be a healer.
I graduated in 2002 and immediately became an independent contractor. Within a year, I opened up my own Chiropractic office. Eventually I expanded the office into an Integrated Wellness Center, with a Medical Doctor, Nurse Practitioner, Acupuncturist, Massage Therapist, and 2 additional Chiropractors.
One of the highlights of my career was that at times, I was called to take care of famous musicians when they came to Atlanta. Sometimes I would treat the artist. Sometimes it was the roadies or the dancers. It was always a wild experience. Some of the shows I’ve got to work at were Lady Gaga, Rod Stewart, Stevie Nicks, Bad Company, and Trans-Siberian Orchestra.
I started investing in Real Estate at age 25 and eventually I owned and managed a number of single family and muliti-family rental properties in Atlanta. I also began writing and even got to author a chapter in a book with Dr. Deepak Chopra called “Roadmap to Success.”
When I was 33, I began taking violin lessons as an outlet for my stress. When I played violin, I felt alive, and all my worries vanished. I found my flow state. Since I was learning as an adult, and only had so much time to practice, I did not want to bother learning to read music, so I did everything by ear. I focused on improvisation.
When I turned 42, I needed change. Although I loved my office and patients, it had overtaken every aspect of my life, and I realized that I was defined by my career, and little else. The monotony of living life on repeat, was draining me.
I made a really tough decision to sell my practice and took about 3 years off. This was the first time in my life that I had time to contemplate myself. To figure out more about who I was. A time for self-reflection. Counterintuitively to what I expected, when I first “retired,” I had very strong feelings of emptiness and depression. Being alone with your thoughts for the first time can be terrifying. Immediate existential crisis set in.
I kept busy working on my Real Estate business, and recorded my first Electric Violin album, as “Atlas Wolf,” called Cosmic Antenna. I got deep into journaling, read a lot of books about stoicism and philosophy, watched countless YouTube self-help and mindfulness videos. I discovered a lot more about who I really was. It was eye opening.
Eventually I began to feel, like a more complete, and balanced person. I began to miss treating patients, and so I started working in a Chiropractic office 2 days a week again.
It makes me sad when I look around, and see everyone with their head down, hustling to survive, and missing out on the true meaning of life. My goal now is to combine my talents to help others discover themselves and achieve everything they want out of life. I utilize education, self-reflection, and music as my means to connect with others and encourage personal and professional growth.
Traveling, has always helped me find inspiration, and have been to Japan, China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Canada, Mexico, Italy, Germany, France, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, India, Australia, Egypt, Jordan, Israel, Turkey, Czech Republic, Iceland, The Netherlands, Greece, Costa Rica, and Peru. I enjoy photography and even use some of my photos for inspirational posters that I create. I also enjoy spending time with my amazing wife Autumn and our fur baby (German Sheppard) Drogan. We love camping, walking, hiking, campfires, biking, kayaking, exercising, looking at the stars, watching sunrises and sunsets, and spending time with family and friends.
